Block Work, Paint, Underlayment. There was about two months completion time on this phase. A local block mason was hired. It was hot. This phase started July 30 and ended about October 4, 2020.

This was the starting corner and first course. 16x16 corners and 12x16 piers. To be solidly filled.

September 6, 2020. It had been about 30 days for the concrete to “cure out”. Piers are getting primed then painted. A sprayer worked so much better and really did not waste that much.

A swale was created above the cabin. To divert runoff from entering the house and turning the crawl space into a mud pit. Can you say “disastrous”? Until further grading work can be done, this will buy a lot of time. Block masons have returned to lay a course on the uphill side of the foundation. This suddenly became a big deal. About to commit to the structure. Second leap of faith. A lot of effort in that “empty” space below the house. This was a point made by Troy (neighbor) that was taken to heart immediately.

October 3rd, 2020. Organics scraped out. Crawl space has been backfilled with red dirt. Laying out geo tech in crawlspace.

October 30, 2021. An additional lower course of block needed to be added on the back of the house. Understanding site conditions, building on a slope, just has issues i failed to comprehend. The block mason was called, and request made for this course to be added. Here you see where the footers were uncovered.

Footers were exposed, the block masons can build up from here.

The uphill side of the house was done a long time ago. There is no worry now of water, and hillside erosion coming down on the back side of the house and entering the crawl space. All of this “lower course” work could have been done when the block masons first installed the piers. Part of building is learning……
